Modifications

5 March 2019

Every caravan needs modifications, and the time has once more come for us to go through that process. Hopefully it will be the last time we do this for a while.

We sat in the van again for a while before going in to the office. We had a good look around and noted where all the outlets – both 240v and 12v – were located and whether we wanted any others. We also asked the helpful folk on the Crusader Caravan Owners Group of Australia Facebook group what changes they thought we should make.

Here is a list of the changes we are making to our caravan:

  • Additional 160w solar panel, making 2 in total
  • Additional 120ah AGM battery, making 2 in total
  • 2-way compressor fridge in place of 3-way absorption style
  • 3 arm rear bar, replacing standard 2 arm, to support the following…
  • Additional spare wheel bracket on rear bar (for Touareg full-size spare)
  • Infill cushion for club lounge to enable conversion into bed
  • Alko ESC (free; show special)
  • Additional power outlet to club lounge area
  • Additional 12v outlet to club lounge area
  • Move axles forward for sub-200kg ball weight (at tare)

In addition to those changes we also considered a few more. The main one was a change to lithium batteries but this added around $4,000 to the price, so we passed. We will go this route when the supplied AGM batteries reach end of life.

Now we wait…
