The tug’s first report card

27 March 2019

So the tug (VW Touareg) went in yesterday for its first service. This will be the first report on its condition we have had since buying it.

It was a standard yearly service plus their standard 80-odd point inspection checklist. As noted in the log book by the previous mechanic at the cars last service, the rear brakes needed replacing. New rotors and pads installed on both sides. Apparently, the front sets are both hovering around 30% of the way through their expected life. We should get another two to three years out of those.

They did find a very small oil leak around the bell housing. It is most likely a rear main seal that the mechanic advised to leave alone until it worsens. There was nothing else to be found. Good news. In the words of the front desk manager, “it looks like you got a good one.” Despite having the car inspected prior to purchase this was music to our ears. After the debacle that was the Captiva, we can only hope he is right.
