Yorke Peninsula – Nov 2021

13 November 2021

We have badly needed a getaway for a while now, and so we planned a week on the Yorke Peninsula. This wasn’t to be a sightseeing trip, although of course we did some of this, but just a relaxing time away from the daily grind.

We invited Megan’s father, Bob, along as well as Lisa, one of Megan’s long-time friends. For obvious reasons, neither stayed with us in the caravan and each had their own on-site cabin.

We chose Corny Point as our base of operations, partly due to location and partly due to availability. It seems that everyone is travelling locally during these COVID times.

Lunch stop was a bakery at Port Wakefield, but otherwise the trip was direct and uneventful.

Our first outing was across the peninsula through Yorketown to Edithburg and then north through Coobowie, Wool Bay and Stansbury where we stopped for a coffee as the Blue Lime Cafe. From there it was up via Minlaton for a bit of grocery shopping and back to camp.

Most evenings, and most of Saturday, were spent in Lisa’s cabin playing Frustration.

Another drive, this time to visit The Pink Lake at Yorketown. Surely you ladies could have coordinated your clothing choices?

On our return from The Pink Lake, we stopped off at Warooka for some supplies and then headed through Corny Point to the lighthouse.

On the Wednesday evening we went out for dinner at Tavern on Turton at Point Turton, while Friday lunch was had at the Marion Bay Tavern & Motel, naturally enough in Marion Bay. We can unreservedly recommend both places as dining destinations. In particular, the onion rings at Marion Bay were the best I have ever had.

Finally, after a restful week the time had come to return home. As we did, we took the opportunity to stop off at The Big Teddy Bear just outside Minlaton.
