Sometimes luck is on your side.

When we ordered our Excalibur Kingsman, I asked was whether the display model was exactly what we would receive. Not counting any modifications we requested, of course. We were assured that it was. Then, last week, I was doing some maintenance and enhancements on this site. I noticed that the Crusader website had a hand basin in the bedroom.

The demonstration model we saw had a wardrobe in that location. I assumed they had changed the design. I could not fathom why a basin was a necessary addition to the bedroom. The whole van is only 22 feet in length. How close to a basin do you need to be at night? Anyway, I thought no more of it.

Fast forward to today. Megan and I were attending an event in Bowden and were returning home past Cameron Caravans. I wanted to get home and get some hours in at work but we decided to stop in and visit “our van” as we like to call the stock van. While there, as often happens, Anthony from the sales office came and had a chat with us. Without thinking much about it, I asked him why the website had a hand basin in the bedroom. He confirmed that was the case and that Cameron’s had ordered the wardrobe on this van. Like me, they had felt the extra basin was unnecessary.

OK, now we have some questions

Megan hadn’t known about this and it came as somewhat of a shock to her. Anthony went back to the office to fetch our plans to confirm the design. He returned in short order with the news we had the hand basin.

So we discussed our concerns and our options. We told Anthony that no one had told us that the wardrobe was not standard, and we definitely wanted it and not the basin. He suggested the change would probably cost about $400 at this late stage, but went to phone the manufacturer for confirmation. He returned with good news and bad. The good news was that the change could be made and that Cameron Caravans would eat the cost. Of course this made us quite happy. The bad news was that our build would have to slip by a week or two. So be it. That delay is a small price to pay.

So it was serendipitous that we dropped in to the dealer on this date. We’d have been disappointed had we come in to pick up our van and discovered the basin.
