The first big trip
We haven’t even ordered our caravan yet and we are planning our first big trip.
We have been forced into this trip. Well, Almost.
Kokoda Nationals
So we are buying a Kokoda Admiral, and we have joined the Kokoda owners Facebook group… we therefore decided we just had to try and get to their 3rd annual Kokoda Nationals. We want to be a part of this community and participate as fully as we can. This is scheduled for September 14-19, 2019 at BIG4 Rollingstone Beach Front Resort, about an hour north of Townsville, Qld. We have reserved a pet friendly absolute beachfront spot. This means the beach will be mere metres from our van! We are hoping that we will have had time to take some quick, local(ish) trips to learn the ropes.
The trip from Adelaide to Rollingstone is around 2,900 km. One way! The Kokoda group suggests that averaging 400 km per day is a reasonable target. This assumes we don’t want to explore on the way, of course. So we have created a provisional route and schedule to arrive at Rollingstone on time. We have not yet started planning the return trip.
Here is a look at the provisional itinery:
It will also mark the first time we have left the boys home by themselves for more than a few days. It might be a good thing we are taking Jack Jack with us.
Megan’s father, Bob, has indicated he would like to join us on this trip too… as the Admiral is only designed to sleep 2, this could pose a small problem. One of those short trips we hope to do will have to include Bob, so he can try the club lounge as a bed.
More to follow…
