Tanunda – Oct 2019 – Cameron Caravans Meetup
We first mentioned the meetup back in May when it was announced, and in October it was time to go.
The Big Rocking Horse
To begin the weekend, we made a quick pit stop at the first of the Big Things on our list, The Big Rocking Horse at Gumeracha. Since we were headed to the Barossa Valley, and we could get there via Gumeracha, we thought we’d check that off our list. We have been there before, back when our boys were small, but prior visits don’t count towards this adventure.
From there it was straight on to Tanunda and check-in at Barossa Valley Tourist Park.
Tanunda
The weekend was filled with informal talks and presentations, meals, instruction and – of course – happy hours! There was plenty of time to chat to other Crusader owners. There were even a couple of other Touareg owners present. I believe however, that we were the only Kingsman model caravan at the event.
Friday evening included an open air movie (Red Dog). Megan and I had brought along a $20 inflatable sofa we found at Big W for this occasion. It was surprisingly comfortable, and drew quite a bit of attention and even some envy.
Fun and Games
Saturday morning included a ‘games’ period, which only served to demonstrate how far my fitness has fallen. In the afternoon there was a wine tasting :D, and the evening included a trivia quiz and a funny dress contest. There was supposed to be another movie in the evening, but inclement weather prevented it.
All in all the weekend was fun and informative, plus we got to meet a bunch of fellow Crusader owners. The only downside was that I hurt my back (yes, again) while packing up to leave and Megan had to drive home. Her first experience towing since we did the course. She did great, and got the caravan reversed into the driveway too.
A big thanks to all at Cameron Caravans and the team at Crusader for putting on a very enjoyable weekend.
