Eyre Peninsula – Feb 2021 – Elliston
Day 7 had us waking up to that wonderful view we showed you in our last post. Today we planned to continue up the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula, but we hadn’t yet decided where to stop. Wikicamps to the rescue once more, and we settled on a small town called Elliston.
A few dusty k’s from the clifftop to the highway and we were back up to speed. No stops this time, and we arrived in Elliston at around 12:20 PM. The caravan park we had chosen – Elliston has two – was practically empty when we rocked up. The guy at the front desk said to just pick any spot, so we did, in the shade of a set of large trees. There was nothing particularly special about the park, but the sunset that evening was pretty great.
Still in Elliston
Early on day 8 we decided to stay another night so we could explore the local area. The first stop was Locks Well Beach. It was quite awe inspiring to look at, but is highly dangerous and both swimming and surfing are banned there. The panorama photo below doesn’t really do it justice, but then none of my other photos did either. The water looked deep, and you could practically see the undertow.
We had also been told that the cliff top drives around Elliston were worth a look too, and there was some great scenery. This time I gave the drone a go.
