Eyre Peninsula – Feb 2021 – Home
From Streaky Bay we headed to Ceduna for two nights, then Wudina, Port Augusta (again) and home to Adelaide, thus ending our current circuit of the Eyre Peninsula.
Ceduna
There’s more to see here than we took in, but our the highlight was Pinky Point Lookout, where we learned about the sinking of the Elini K a WWII Liberty Ship, repurposed after the war as a bulk transporter, and that sank off Thevenard in 1966.
We also paid a visit to The Big Oyster, but this really was a bit of a let down. Oh well… checked off the list.
Wudina
From Ceduna we commenced our trip east, towards home. Not wanting to travel too far each day, we broke the trip at Wudina where we also wanted to see The Australian Farmer statue. Our overnight stay was at a powered site at the local showground for a $10 donation utilising an honesty system. Yes, we paid!
Kimba
No mucking about, straight back onto the road, where our lunch stop was at Kimba. Here we saw the local painted silo and The Big Galah, at a fuel and food stop claiming to be Halfway Across Australia, which at 1,703 km from Sydney and 2,229 km from Perth is a bit of a stretch. The 2,085 km to Brisbane makes it closer, but Sydney and Perth are close to the same lattitude as Kimba which would make more sense. Some quick calculations would put Ceduna much closer to being the halfway point, just in case you are interested.
From Kimba we parked up again for the night in Port Augusta, this time at a much more tolerable temperature, and then we headed home the next day stopping only for fuel – for both the car and ourselves.
Trip over.
