Hallidays Point – Dec 2019 – Yarrawonga

Goodbye Yeoval and hello Yarrawonga.

At the show grounds in Yeoval, where we stopped overnight, Jack went for a bit of a wander in the morning. There was only one other van camped there – a good 70 or more metres away – and no one else in sight, so we didn’t think too much of it… until he returned. He was absolutely covered in burrs and seeds. When we left, Megan sat in the back with him and slowly extracted them all. It took a good hour.

On the way out of town, we came across a sculpture of a large hat. Upon investigating, we found that the hat is representative of the style worn by bush poet A.B. (Banjo) Paterson, and that Yeoval was his childhood home. Across the road was from the sculpture was a small museum dedicated to the poet, which we did not have time to visit. Besides, Megan was busy on burr removal duty. Something for the next pass through that way.

It was a long drive ahead, taking us south again, back through Parkes, Forbes and West Wyalong and to the I’ve Been Everywhere town of Grong Grong. No stop here as plenty of driving remained.

From here we headed west to Nerrandera, home of a Painted Water Tower and a Big Thing, the Big Playable Guitar.

Leaving Nerrandera, we headed south-west along the Newell Highway until reaching Morundah, where we then took a more southerly route along Federation Way towards Urana and The Big Spider.

Finally, we drove the last leg of this day to our home for the next couple of days, visiting friends in Yarrawonga.
