It’s here!
Our new caravan has arrived at the dealer.
Today we went to the Let’s GO Caravan & Camping Sale (show) at the Adelaide Showgrounds. It was at this show last year that we first started our journey towards the RV lifestyle. This year our main objective was to see if any of the show special prices on accessories we need would save us money. Secondary to this, we’d check out the newest caravan models and see if any interesting innovations were on display.
We left our shopping until the end, but we did pick up a number of needed items, including hoses, power cords, levelling ramps etc.
Aside from this though, two things of note were apparent:
The first was that there were a number of larger (heavier) than usual caravans on display. One that we looked at was the Hollywood from Universal, which are made by Lotus Caravans. This van had a length of 24 feet and 2 slides, but what set it apart was it’s weight. With an ATM of 4,000 kg, it was considerably heavier than the typical 3,500 kg limit imposed by the most common vehicles used for towing in Australia. This van would require a truck, be it a commercial vehicle, or an American style pick-up. I imagine this trend will continue as more American pick-ups become available here.
Our caravan has arrived
The second important thing occurred when we visited the Cameron Caravans stand. We spoke briefly to Anthony who then told us that our caravan had arrived from the factory.
Needless to say, we made haste through the rest of the show and headed home via Cameron Caravans to take a look at our caravan. The van has not yet been through the dealer clean and check process, so it’s not quite ready yet. Take a look below:
Importantly, the tow ball weight at tare has come in at 180 kg, so we have 100 kg to play with when loading the van to stay under the 280 kg limit of our Touareg.
