Queensland – Mar 2022 – Emmdale Roadhouse
Out of Broken Hill and onwards towards Queensland.
Very little to report on this leg of the trip, other than we passed through Wilcannia, a place Megan refused to stop as apparently it scarred her in her childhood. Images of decrepit buildings and barbed wire fill her memory. It didn’t look nearly that bad – and Megan agreed – but we had planned not to stop, so we didn’t.
Instead we stopped for the night at the Emmdale Roadhouse at the side of the Barrier Highway between Wilcannia and Noona. There is nothing much to be seen around here, but it has fuel and a couple of powered sites at $20 per night. No water hookups though. There are only 3 or 4 sites, so it might pay to arrive earlier rather than later. Apparently, they also have some unpowered sites, but we didn’t see where they were located. They also serve hot food and cold drinks, which were pretty decent, so that’s also welcome. Plus they have Telstra service, although it seems to be limited to the vicinity of the building.
When we were there the place was up for sale, so if something like this interests you, the info is on their Facebook page.
A decent meal, a quiet night, and a great view of the Milky Way. All in all, not a bad place to stop.
