Queensland – Mar 2022 – Oodla Wirra
Once again we were late away on the first day of this trip. It’s becoming “our thing” it seems. Due to the ongoing weather problems on the east coast, we aren’t entirely sure if we can use our preferred route, or go to some of our destinations. The last thing we need to be doing is getting in the way of people recovering from flood and storm damage. We will play it by ear.
We have broken this trip into fairly short drive days in an attempt to not tire ourselves out. In order to keep costs down – especially given current fuel prices (ouch!) – we have scheduled some stops at free and cheap camp sites. The first of these is at a rest area just south of the Oodla Wirra quarantine station on the Barrier Highway heading towards Broken Hill. As a roadside rest area there isn’t much to see, but below is a short drone shot.
Neo
This is also Neo’s first real trip in the caravan. Our last post was a tribute to our fur baby, Jack Jack, who left us in November last year, and we decided not to get a new dog for a while. That lasted only a few days really. It just wasn’t the same without a furry friend around, and so a search began. After a few weeks, we were pointed to a breeder with a litter ready to go, and Neo was added to the family. He is a Straight Coat Cavoodle – no, we didn’t know that was a thing either. He doesn’t much like the car, but I think he is now resigned to it. Hopefully he will come to love it.
We adopted him on Megan’s birthday in December at the ripe old age of 8 weeks. A few days later, he came with us to Megan’s brother’s shack on the Murray at Bow Hill for Christmas, but that’s only a little more than an hour or two out of Adelaide, so we count this is his first trip. He is now a little over 4 months old.
