Queensland – Mar 2022 – Toowoomba

14 March 2022

As has been the case for most of this trip, we spent just the one night in Goondiwindi. We did discover, however, another Big Thing to visit on our way out of town, that being the Big Map of Australia.

I don’t think I have mentioned to this point, but around the time of this journey there had been major flooding events in Southern Queensland and Northern New South Wales. We were constantly checking the state of various roads to ensure we could use them and to make sure we weren’t getting in anyone’s way. The rain behind the flooding had not entirely missed the Goondiwindi region, which led to us getting…

Bogged!

Fortunately, it was more just a lack of grip on very wet grass and soil rather than sinking into the ground, and a helpful stranger was enough to get us free. You can see the recovery effort in the short video clip below:

In addition to the Big Map, there was another art installation at this location. We only got this photo as we exited the place… the bog exercise having sapped quite a bit of our energy.

Millmerran

After a quick side trip to a local car wash to remove the excess mud from both the car and caravan, we headed up the Gore Highway towards our next stops in Millmerran. Here we ticked off another Big Thing in the Big Teepee, and a Silo Trail item in their Painted Water Tower.

Toowoomba

From Millmerran we continued until we reached the I’ve Been Everywhere city of Toowoomba. Here we stayed for a couple of nights, parked up in the driveway of family friends.
