Shower Water Saver
Saving water is important if you enjoy free camping or ‘boondocking’
This tip comes from Anne Harris and Paul Kelf, who posted this shower water saver tip on the Kokoda Caravans Tips and Mod Page (closed group).
My husband Paul Kelf installed this switch so we are not wasting precious water while waiting for the shower to warm up. The cold water is fed directly back to the water tank. He can also lift heavy things.

What Paul has done is to install a standard diverter to the shower. This is the same part used to switch water flow from shower head to bath filler where a shower is fitted over a bath and a single set of taps or mixer is used for both outlets. It is commonly seen in hotels. However, instead of filling a bath, the diverter sends the water back to the on board fresh water holding tanks. This is particularly useful when free camping when water conservation is often important. It saves having to try and capture the water in a bucket while waiting for it to get hot.
This seems like something that should be fitted to all caravans. Something similar could be added to the bathroom and kitchen sinks as well.
Another Variation
Also from the Kokoda Caravans Tips and Mod Page comes this tip by Dave Hengstberger.
Todays job was to fit diverter in shower. This will send cold water before the hot comes back to the tank.

We have a (Kokoda) Tribute ll and have a vent which is very hard to get 2 hands in to tighten pipes the next option was to remove the outdoor shower but didn’t have to. I went across behind washing machine and down behind draws where other pipes go. I went to get one that was incorporated in mixer tap but had no way of fixing that as house ones fix to stud wall and in the van have to hang off the thin fiberglass (sic) wall.
