The tug
Well, we did it, we have a tug. We bought the Touareg from the Our new car? post.
Josh and I flew over and drove back as described in that previous post, and are feeling a little tired. The Touareg is looking a bit tired too. It rained on and off for much of the way, so lots of road grime and dirt has been flung up onto the paintwork.
Interestingly, this turns out not to be a 4Motion drivetrain but a 4xMotion. This means it has the full locking diff setup and a low range for more serious off-roading. Like we’ll ever do that!. I’m not sure if this is a good or bad thing. It may be a more versatile vehicle, but it may also be more complex and more expensive to repair should anything go wrong.
Now we just have to hope the ball weight of our van comes in where it is planned. If not, we’ll have some thinking to do.
And we’re in the market for a name for it. “Scruffy” – my suggestion – was rejected. There are bonus points for anyone who gets why I came up with it.

The Touareg – still to be named – is now an official South Aussie. Inspection complete, stamp duty paid and registration done.

“Scruffy” has been decoded. It comes from a Little Golden Book title from my childhood, called “Scruffy the Tug Boat.”
