YouTube Channel
Our van is almost here, so we’re gearing up to start releasing videos of our adventures on our YouTube channel.
There isn’t much in the way of content up there yet, but feel free to look at what is. The clip below is designed as a title sequence to add at the beginning of each new episode.
YouTube is a weird and (often) wonderful place. Whenever I am wanting to do something new or different, I can be fairly certain someone has done it before me and has put a how to video up there to help others.
The title clip below is an example. It was produced using an editing suite called DaVinci Resolve, which is available in both free and paid versions. The paid version is often used in TV and film production, but even the free version has most of the functionality available. However, like any substantial and powerful piece of technology, there is a learning curve. When I can’t figure out how to do something – which happened often – a quick search in YouTube almost always resulted in success. As a result, I learned not only some non-linear video editing techniques, but also some basic visual effects (VFX) compositing. Take a look at the result below and let me know what you think.
The clip in detail
The still used at the end of this clip is not of our van (obviously, as we haven’t received it). You may recognise it as the header image for this blog. It is a composited shot consisting of a photo I took of the Crusader Kingsman from the Cameron Caravans lot overlaid on an image I found after searching google for Australian Outback. We’ll replace it with a real shot as soon as we can.
The rest of the video clips are some taken on our recent travels, just (again, obviously) not with our caravan. Some are from our visit to Yarrawonga in Victoria and some from Perth in Western Australia.
